McGeorge Appellate Advocacy Team Earns Distinctions in Competitions Across the Country

McGeorge Appellate Advocacy Team Earns Distinctions in Competitions Across the Country

Oak Park’s own McGeorge School of Law concluded its 2013-2014 appellate advocacy competition season this week earning awards in several contests around the United States.

The appellate advocacy team, known as the Moot Court Team, argues issues of law before simulated panels of appellate judges. Each competition provides a different fact pattern with different legal issues for the students to research. After preparing a brief that is up to fifty pages long, the students prepare 10 to 20-minute oral arguments. During the arguments the judges ask specific questions about the law to assess the student’s presentation, critical thinking, and research skills. The students are scored based on their brief writing and oral argument abilities.
