Girls D-1 Section Playoffs: (12) St. Francis 61, (5) Monterey Trail 50
ELK GROVE, CA - The (12) St. Francis Troubadours upset the (5) Monterey Trail Mustangs 61-50 to open the Sac-Joaquin Division I Section Playoffs on Tuesday night.
Playing on the road, the Troubadours (16-12) - owners of eight section championships, kept it close the entire game and attacked the Mustangs from the tip.
Monterey Trail lost their first game after rattling off five straight games. Mustangs head coach Louie Corpuz, in his first season turned around the girls basketball program and led the team to a 22-6 overall record that will end in a first round playoff exit.
Up next for St. Francis, they earn the right to face the (4) Kennedy Cougars on Thursday. The Cougars narrowly defeated (13) Napa 51-49 on Tuesday.
