SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento will have a new police chief on Dec. 29, said city manager John Shirey.
With current police chief Rick Braziel retiring, Deputy Chief Dan Schiele will be appointed acting chief.
"I am pleased to have Dan as our acting chief," said Shirey in a statement. "Dan has been a valued member of the Sacramento Police Department for 31 years and I have complete confidence in his ability to keep the Department moving forward while the city selects its new Police Chief."
Schiele is a second generation Sacramento police officer.
Prior to becoming deputy chief, Schiele spent five years as the commander of the Joseph E. Rooney Police Facility.
Schiele has not applied for the permanent chief position.
