UPDATE: Driver sought in so. Sacramento hit and run death
Crime

SACRAMENTO, CA - A woman died after being hit as she crossed Stockton Boulevard on her bike Sunday night.

Police say a man driver left the scene of the collision at Stockton Boulevard about a half block north of Fruitridge Road. Officer Michele Gigante said witnesses told investigators the driver braked, slowed down after hitting the bicyclist and then sped off on northbound Stockton Boulevard.

The bicyclist, identified as 61-year-old Molly Arndt, did not survive her injuries and was declared dead at UC Davis Medical Center.

UPDATE: Based on evidence collected and witness reports, Gigante said the vehicle that hit the woman has been narrowed to a white, two-wheel drive, 1992-98 Chevrolet 1500 or GMC Sierra 1500, standard cab pick-up truck with a toolbox in the short bed. The left headlight and grill area will have damage.

Sgt. Mike Carrasco said witnesses tried to chase the driver but to no avail.

"We're asking for the public's help in calling the police department should they see any vehicle matching that description that would likely have front end damage to the front left headlight lamps," Carrasco said.

Police had the northbound lanes of Stockton Boulevard closed for several hours as investigators looked for evidence.
