Sacramento -- Hmong Opportunity Program for Education (aka H.O.P.E.) is the creation of Sacramento City College students promoting higher education within the local Hmong community.
Surviving on donations by area businesses and concerned citizens, H.O.P.E. President See Vang says fundraisers such as last Saturday's car wash provide funding to increase awareness of the Hmong culture and history.
"Our mission is to motivate and encourage high school students to achieve a college degree," explains Vang, adding, "and to decrease the drop-out rate of Hmong college students on campus!"
H.O.P.E. President See Vang points out the ultimate goal is a scholarship fund assisting Hmong students to stay in college.
Currently, the group is finalizing plans for an upcoming BBoy Jam fundraiser in late April or early May. Check out Facebook @SCC HOPE for details!
Or, email scchope@yahoo.com for upcoming fundraising events or to make a donation helping these Hmong students achieve college degrees.
