A Scary Good Time - That Benefits the Elk Grove Food Bank

A Scary Good Time - That Benefits the Elk Grove Food Bank

One of the Sacramento area’s scariest home haunts returns to an Elk Grove neighborhood for the Halloween season. For the twelfth time, Steve McClelland converta a garage and part of a yard into a spooky Reaper’s Wrath. This year’s presentation will run for four days starting Friday, Oct. 26 and ending Halloween night.

Reaper’s Wrath will frighten the bravest souls from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 8870 Autumn Gold Court. Instead of the usual trick-or-treating, the Elk Grove hosts are asking for two cans of food for admission. They will donate all food to the Elk Grove Food Bank. Another canned good will be needed for each additional admission.

St. Francis High School holds record breaking food drive

Elk Grove Food Bank and Sacramento Emergency Foodlink got a big boost from the St. Francis High School student body, which collected 131,216 cans and packages of nonperishable food items, breaking last year’s food drive record by 30,000 items.

Each fall St. Francis High School’s Homecoming festivities involve numerous activities designed to build class spirit and unity, from pseudo-sports competitions to creating elaborate, theme-based decorations, skits, dances, songs and cheers. The annual Food Drive is part of the competition among the classes and serves as an amazing display of the power of young women to optimize their resources and serve their community.

The Tahoe Park Community takes the initiative

Saturday September 15th was a cloudless summer morning in the Tahoe Park community. While part of the park was filled with a children’s soccer match, volunteers occupied the other half. Discover Lodi wine country

Discover Lodi wine country

Wine lovers don’t need to venture far to acquire a variety of fine wines. The Lodi Wine Country is right in our back yard, and has more than 80 wineries and 750 grape growers.

Although Lodi is mostly known for its Old Vine Zinfandel and regular Zinfandel wines, its wine country is also the state's leading producer of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvgnon Blanc and Viognier. But it doesn't stop there. Lodi grape growers grow more than 60 different varieties, everything from Albarino to Torrontes and Gewürztraminer.

“Lodi is a friendly and relaxed wine region with a deep heritage in growing winegrapes for amazing world class wines,” said Camron King, executive director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission. “The Lodi experience is one based in community and passion for the product produced here. Growers, winery owners and the community are all intertwined and this makes for a great Lodi experience for anyone visiting the region.”
