SCIP Facts: Did You Know -- 

• SCIP programs/activities/events engage 1200 students each month?

• SCIP has close to 30 dynamic programs all designed to positively engage cops and kids.   These programs empower our most at-risk youth to make better choices.

• Cops, teachers, business leaders, etc., volunteered close to 2700 hours last year?

• CIP has 25 Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies, Probation Officers, and other law enforcement-related personnel, who mentor and/or coach in one of SCIP'S many programs/activities.

• In 2014, SCIP introduced licensed therapist into two programs, giving our most vulnerable youth and their families access to critical mental health services.

Pacific students volunteered more than 60,000 hours last school year

STOCKTON — University of the Pacific students performed more than 60,400 hours of community service last year and raised more than $48,500 to help more than 20,000 people  in underserved communities, the university announced Tuesday.

“Through their work in the community, Pacific students are both applying what they learn and learning as they apply their education through service,” said Erin Rausch, director of the university’s Center for Community Involvement. “Through reaching out, students develop values of civic engagement and community responsibility.”

In conjunction with the 17th anniversary of the Sacramento Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration event, the MLK Committee is sponsoring a student essay contest with the winners to be announced prior to the celebration dinner on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Sacramento.

American River Parkway Foundation is Grateful to all Supporters!

Dear Parkway Supporter,

The American River Parkway is a natural oasis that meanders through the urban core of Sacramento. The American River Parkway Foundation is proud to sponsor programs and organize volunteers to maintain and restore the Parkway. Each year brings greater challenges as Parkway use has grown to over 8 million user visits per year.

With your support through our membership drive the Foundation staff and volunteers have completed the following work thus far in 2014:

Removed 10 acres of invasive plants along the shore-line for enhanced boating, fishing and riparian restoration.

Maintained and cleared vegetation along the 23 miles of multi-purpose trail so equestrians, hikers and runners have access.

Planted 750 native plants to aid in the reforestation and challenge to exotic species.

Painted the bathrooms at Discovery Park after the new sewers were installed in a cooperative venture with the County.
