Elk Grove to Celebrate Independence Day With Annual Firework Show

The City of Elk Grove will celebrate Independence Day with the 19th annual Salute to the Red, White and Blue festivities on July 4 at the Elk Grove Regional Park. 

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with the opening of vendor exhibits followed by the “Let Freedom Ride” Bike and Stroller Parade at 5:30 p.m. and entertainment from the Sacramento Single Squares, beach rock music by Safety Orange, and a glow show by Obsidian Butterfly beginning at 6 p.m.

Annual Run 4 Hunger Next Saturday at Elk Grove Regional Park

The 11th Annual Run 4 Hunger benefiting the Elk Grove Food Bank will take place next Saturday at the Elk Grove Regional Park. The event includes a flat, 5k, 10k courses for adults, as well as quarter and half mile runs for kids 12 and under.

Kaiser Permanente awards nearly $140,000 to nonprofit organizations serving the Elk Grove area

Kaiser Permanente has awarded 56 grants totaling nearly $1.5 million to 54 local not-for-profit organizations, schools and government entities serving the greater Sacramento community. That includes $140,000 in funds to organizations serving the Elk Grove area.

The Community Benefit grants – which range in individual amounts from $5,000 to $97,304 – are part of a longstanding practice for Kaiser Permanente, the region’s leading integrated health-care provider, which works to improve the health of the communities it serves in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties. Overall, the grants seek to improve access to medical care, support mental health services, reduce violence, develop the workforce and promote healthy eating and active living.

The largest allocation of funding will help the uninsured and underinsured access health care programs and services at various community clinics and organizations.

Most food trucks serve mouth-watering tacos, burgers, or other delicious fare to customers. One local non-profit is turning that concept on its head. The Reverse Food Truck (Link to website: http://sacrft.com/), run by Sacramento locals Richard and Zoey Goore, collects donations of fresh produce, healthy non-perishable items, and monetary support to aid local food banks, schools, and other organizations. Railroad Museum Gets in the Jazzy Spirit Plus Offers Free Admission to Music Festival Badge Holders

Coinciding with the 42nd Annual Sacramento Music Festival happening over Memorial Day weekend in Old Sacramento, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum will celebrate the holiday by offering jazz music inside the Railroad Museum and popular train rides behind a vintage steam locomotive.  In addition, festival badge holders will receive complimentary admission to the Railroad Museum given it is an official musical venue for the special event.

Inside the Museum, visitors will be treated to entertaining jazz musicians in the Roundhouse throughout the holiday weekend, May 23-25, 2015.  And, guests who choose to take a lovely six-mile, 45-minute round trip excursion train ride along the levees of the Sacramento River will also be entertained on board by talented banjo performers from the Sacramento Banjo Band.
