Women’s History Day in Old Sacramento This Saturday!

Women’s History Day in Old Sacramento This Saturday!

In honor of “Women’s History Month,” the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation is proud to present a special (and free) Living History event: Women’s History Day that will take place throughout Old Sacramento State Historic Park on Saturday, March 9, from noon to 3 p.m.   Dressed in 19th century period attire, men and women will passionately debate the controversial topic of women’s suffrage.  In addition, visitors to Old Sacramento may chance upon Living History characters as they roam the streets urging women to take up the vote. The origins of “Women’s History Month” as a national celebration date back to 1981 when Congress identified a week in March as “Women’s History Week.”  In 1995, the celebration was expanded to the entire month and the tradition continues.   For more information about this Living History event or other events and activities offered by the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation, please visit www.historicoldsac.org or call 916-808-7059.
