One of my favorite species at the Sacramento Zoo are the Whistling Ducks. These ducks have a delightful whistle and when you whistle “Wee-hee” to them they whistle back. The Zoo’s Interpretive Center began working with four young ducklings born last year at the Zoo. Sacramento animal shelters join national initiative to find homes for thousands of animals

Local community challenged to #EmptySacShelters over the course of one weekend

Sacramento, CA (October 14, 2013)—Later this week, shelters from around the country will collaboratively attempt to place thousands of homeless animals into new homes over the course of just one weekend for the ASPCA’s Mega Match-a-thon initiative.

Four local animal shelters have joined the initiative and are calling on the Sacramento community to #EmptySacShelters from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, October 18 to Sunday, October 20.

The local effort, aptly named the Empty Our Shelters Project, will provide individuals and families the opportunity to be a part of something big by helping to end homelessness for animals found in shelters. That weekend, participating local animal shelters will allow Sacramentans to adopt any animal from any shelter for just $20!
