FREE spay/neuter surgeries

Animal Care Partners of Sacramento and the ASPCA are offering FREE cat spay/neuter surgeries for low income residents.

There are a limited number of appointments available, so call today so you can do your part to prevent a large kitty season.

Kitten season runs from March to as late as November depending on weather.  Many of the local shelters houses and takes care of as many kittens as space permits, but even with all the pet-friendly organizations banding together and working as a team, the sad truth is many kittens will have their tiny lives cut short due to being separated from their mother too early, exposure to diseases from other cats and kittens, being exposed to the elements and having their core body temperature drop too low before being found, etc. It is not desirable or natural for infants of any species to be separated from their mothers and grow up in small cages!

Celebrate Mardi PAWS with Three Sacramento Animal Shelters

Celebrate Mardi PAWS with Three Sacramento Animal Shelters

Three Sacramento animal shelters will kick off a Mardi PAWS cat adoption event on Tuesday, March 8 – “Fat Tuesday.”  Through March 13, the Sacramento SPCA, City of Sacramento Animal Care Services and Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation will offer half-off cat adoption fees in celebration of Mardi Gras.

“Spring is on its way, and with the warmer weather Sacramento animal shelters are beginning to experience an influx of homeless cats and kittens,” said Rick Johnson, Sacramento SPCA Executive Director.  “The Mardi PAWS half-off cat adoption event is a fun way for Sacramento animal shelters to encourage the adoption of cats at the beginning of this especially busy time of year.”

Visit your local animal shelter during the Mardi PAWS cat adoption event and take home a new friend at half the cost (and receive festive Mardi PAWS beads with every adoption)!

Crisis Nursery- March 2, 2010

Parents who are dealing  with stressful situations such as job loss, illness or relationship issues sometimes forget that those pressures and stress can be felt by the children. Before the issues escalate to a point where the children are at risk, there is a resource available where parents can drop their children off in a safe environment where they will be protected and well taken care of.

The Sacramento Children's Home Crisis Nursery is a 24 hour day care facility that enables parents of children ages 0-5 years old to drop their children off for a period of up to thirty days. During that time parents can look for work, cope with a family crisis or simply take a "parental time out."
