Congresswoman Matsui hosts successful federal art grants workshop

SACRAMENTO, CA – On Tuesday, March 22, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) hosted a special federal grants workshop to help area artists, galleries and museums find and apply for federal funding through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).  The event was held in KVIE’s Community Room, and featured a Congressional Liaison from the NEA, who gave a comprehensive overview of the Arts Endowment’s application and grant selection process. 

“The arts and cultural tourism are an in import part of our region's identity - and our economy,” said Congresswoman Matsui.  “This workshop helped provide our local arts community with the opportunity to learn more about how to access federal grant funding, and I look forward to hosting similar events in the future.”

Rosa Parks Middle School targeted for turnaround as seventh ‘Priority School’

Rosa Parks Middle School has been named Sacramento’s seventh Superintendent’s Priority School, expanding SCUSD’s bold school improvement effort that is already seeing positive results on six other campuses, Superintendent Jonathan Raymond announced Thursday.

As a Priority School, Rosa Parks will get extra resources and innovations to boost learning though improved teaching, engaging curriculum and strong family and community connections.

Superintendent Raymond created the Priority Schools program last spring to improve low-performing schools through the use of proven strategies for raising student achievement.

13th Annual Curves Food Drive - Kicks off April 1

During the month of April, Curves gyms in the Sacramento area will participate in the 13th Annual Curves Food Drive to collect non-perishable food and cash donations to benefit area food banks.  Current members who make a $30 donation or an equivalent donation of food are eligible to receive a Curves reusable Food Drive grocery bag. And, from April 4-17, Curves will waive the membership fee for new members who donate a bag of non-perishable food or make a minimum donation of $30.  

"Our goal is to top the donation that we made last year," said Curves founder Diane Heavin.  "This is a great opportunity for the members of our Curves community to help strengthen the Sacramento-area community, too. Everything that our members donate at their local clubs will benefit local families in need."  

Lincoln, Stockton men arrested on child porn charges

SACRAMENTO, CA - A federal grand jury indicted four Northern California men on charges of possession of child pornography, prosecutors said Monday.

Two of the defendants, Jonathan Czubaszewski, 29, and Anthony Pollo, 22, are from Lincoln; the other two, Kenneth Kilburn, 52, and Mark Cline, 45, are from Stockton.  All four were arrested and arraigned Monday morning, prosecutors said.

Cline was an employee at Will C. Wood Middle School in Sacramento before his recent arrest by San Joaquin County Sheriff's detectives, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in Sacramento. He is in custody on an immigration hold. The other three men have been released pending trial.
