Victim in south Sacramento shooting hospitalized

SACRAMENTO, CA - One person was hospitalized after being shot at a south Sacramento apartment complex Monday evening, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. at the Rosedown apartment complex on 47th Street, the department said.

Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos said the victim was shot twice, once in the hand and once in the buttocks, and suffered what he described as non-life threatening injuries.

Parolee arrested after sexually assaulting elderly woman

SACRAMENTO, CA. - A parolee is back in jail after being arrested Saturday afternoon for the home invasion and sexual assault of an elderly South Sacramento woman.

Just before 11 a.m., deputies got a call from a woman who had fled to a neighbors house, reporting she had been restrained and sexually assaulted in her home.

The suspect, she said, also spent time trying on her clothing.

As the search and investigation continued into the afternoon, authorities received a call about a subject matching the description of their suspect.

Deputies descended on the intersection of Thurman Way and Stockton Boulevard, setting up a perimeter.

The suspect was able to elude officers for over an hour by jumping fences, running through backyards and breaking into two residences.

Shortly before 5 p.m., a K-9 unit tracked the suspect to a home on the 5700 block of Nina Way.

1 dead, 1 injured after South Sacramento bar shootout

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA. - One man is dead and another in the hospital after a shootout in front of a South Sacramento bar Sunday around 1:20 a.m.

Sacramento County sheriff's deputies responded to the Warners Rendezvous Lounge, in the 7100 block of Governors Circle, after calls came in of multiple shots fired, said Deputy Jason Ramos.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Later, another man was admitted to the hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Ramos said about 30 rounds were fired from multiple weapons. Dozens of people were detained as possible witnesses, but there was no clear suspect description.

Detectives have not been able to discern a clear motive for the shooting, said Ramos.

South Sacramento piano teacher arrested for sexual assault on student

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - Sacramento County sheriff's detectives arrested a South Sacramento piano teacher after a student reported that he sexually assaulted her.

Hao "Henry" Nguyen, 41, was arrested Saturday, said Deputy Jason Ramos.

A 9-year-old girl student said Nguyen sexually assaulted her during a lesson at his business Sacramento Piano.

Nguyen was booked into Sacramento County Jail for committing a lewd act with a child and oral copulation with a child, said Ramos. The suspect's bail is set at $1,200,000.

Ramos said Nguyen taught about 150 children piano over the past five years. Detectives believe there may be more victims.

Driver identified in fatal Gerber Rd. crash

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - The driver who was killed when he allegedly pulled in front of traffic on Gerber Road Thursday night has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as 25-year-old Jesse Rene Venegas of Elk Grove.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Venegas was behind the wheel of an Acura with three relatives in the car when he left a Save Mart parking lot at a high rate of speed about 8:15 p.m. The Acura was broadsided by a truck traveling east on Gerber.

Venegas suffered mortal injuries at the scene. The CHP said his three family members, who were all under the age of 15, were transported to UC Davis Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries.

The driver of the truck was taken to a Kaiser hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The preliminary CHP investigation suggests neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor.

Sacramento Academy for Enterprising Youth (SAEY), a Horizon Charter Schools program, is hosting an open house, parent information night on Tuesday, April 26 from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Located at 3161 Dwight Road in Elk Grove, SAEY is part of a public charter school providing a "Hybrid" educational option. Serving students grades 7-12, SAEY offers small, personalized college preparatory classes in English, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science. These core classes are reinforced and expanded through work-based learning activities such as career-related student competitions, internships, simulated workplace experiences, technical mentoring, and school-based enterprises. Students attend two days per week and work independently for the other three days.
