Child injured in Sacramento drive-by shooting

SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento police investigate a drive-by shooting in the 2500 block of 50 th Avenue Friday around 11 p.m.

A child was grazed with debris during the shooting, which was a minor injury said Sacramento police.

Police believe the shooting is gang related.

Feds bust Sacramento mail carrier in stolen drugs probe

SACRAMENTO, CA - A postal worker suspected of stealing prescription drugs from Sacramento military veterans has been arrested following a year-long investigation.

According to the criminal complaint, Randall Paul Wessar, 62, worked at the Parkway branch post office in south Sacramento where dozens of parcels containing prescription medication mailed by the Veterans Administration have disappeared over the past year.

News10 first reported the rash of VA drug thefts from the Parkway branch last year after being contacted by an Air Force veteran whose monthly Vicodin shipment had vanished.

Sacramento mom pleads guilty to toddler daughter's murder

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento woman has pleaded guilty to the murder of her young daughter and not guilty by reason of insanity to the attempted murder of her son.

Anul Ram admitted to police she drowned her 3-year-old daughter and tried to drown her 7-year-old son early the morning of Nov. 15, 2009, in their Greenhaven Drive apartment, said Shelly Orio, Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. 

The police investigation found Ram had taken prescribed psychiatric medications and alcohol before she had picked up the children from her estranged husband's place earlier. Ram called him to tell him what she had done and he contacted police, Orio said.

Ram had been previously hospitalized for psychiatric treament.

Transient arrested in shooting death of south Sacramento woman

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - Sacramento County Sheriff's Department arrested a transient suspected of killing a south Sacramento woman in early January.

Teng Thao, 57, was arrested Wednesday near 37 th Street and 41 st Avenue, said Deputy Jason Ramos. Thao was booked into Sacramento County Jail for murder.

Thao is suspected of killing Jennifer Cha on Sunday January 9. Cha was found shot in the torso shortly after 4 a.m. in the 3700 block of 45th Avenue, said Ramos.

Detectives are not sure why the suspect shot Cha and the investigation is ongoing.

National Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday

SACRAMENTO, CA - Looking for a safe way to dispose of unwanted, expired prescription drugs in your household? You can do so this Saturday, April 30, at the second annual National Drug Take-Back Day.

Numerous police, public health and community agencies around California and around the country will serve as disposal sites. For example, the Sacramento Police Department's Public Safety Center, 5770 Freeport Boulevard will be a drop-off site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check the Drug Enforcement Agency website to see where there is a drop-off location near you.
