New red light camera activated in So. Sacramento
SACRAMENTO, CA - A new red light camera went active Thursday morning at the corner of Florin Road and Lindale Drive. While Sacramento County continues to add lights around town, other cities, including Los Angeles, are considering getting rid of them.
"It's not an honest program for all the motorists," said Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine. "If you know the system, you don't have to pay it, nothing happens. Meanwhile, we're paying that company to process each and every citation."
Zine said some on the city council are in favor of abandoning the program.
"I understand the skepticism on the part of some of the nay-sayers," said Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos. "But let's face it, when you talk about statistics -- 78 percent reduction (in crashes) at some of these intersections -- you're talking about basically saving lives."
